Different types of fishing can be done during nearly all seasons of the year. Freshwater fishing, fly fishing and saltwater fishing are best achieved during warmer seasons like fall, spring and summer. Ice fishing can only be done during the winter season.
Fish Virginia's Chesapeake Bay for bass and trout or fly fish in the Blueridge Highlands for a different experience. Tennessee's portion of the Mississippi River and the Great Smoky Mountains produce populations of various bass. Florida is an ideal destination for saltwater fishing or game fish like grouper, snapper, swordfish and tuna. The northern United States, bordering the Great Lakes, are ideal fishing destinations as are states along the coast, such as New Hampshire, which offers both freshwater and saltwater fishing opportunities.
