Ruttger's offers an abundance of activities that you can enjoy throughout the season including our Sand Castle Contest, Talent Show, walking, hiking and jogging trails, a bicycle route, birding, shuffleboard, basketball, game room, horseshoes, indoor and outdoor pools, playground, sandy beach, sauna, tennis, volleyball, water volleyball, exercise room, whirlpools, complete Marina services, golfing on Alec's Nine and The Lakes championship course. 

Guided Fishing on Beautiful Bay Lake - Fishing Vacations

Fishing Guide Lynn Harker invites you to see some of the most beautiful country in North Central Minnesota and share his passion for fishing. Retired after 34 years of teaching, Lynn has been guiding professionally for 20 years on Bay Lake, Mille Lacs, Gull Lake, Whitefish Lake, Pelican Lake, Farm Island, the Cuyuna Country Recreation Area mine pit lakes, and many other smaller lakes in-between.

All species of game fish including crappie, walleye, bass, muskie, and rainbow trout are available in the area. Lynn encourages "Catch & Release" though there is nothing better than taking home fresh fish for supper! From the experienced fisherman to fun family outings, everyone is guaranteed to have a great time. 

Fishing Clinic: Lynn Harker is our own professional fishing guide who will be demonstrating and answering questions about fishing in Bay Lake.  Fun and informative! 

Fishing Tournament: Reel’em in…and win prizes!  For a $5 per person entry fee, you can go fishing out on the lake in the pontoon.  There are a limited number of spaces and fishing poles; bait is provided.  This is a catch and release program. 

Kayak Lessons: A local business called Cycle, Path, & Paddle will provide kayaks and teach proper safety, usage, & handling tips.  You can also join them in a small Bay Lake excursion.  Cost is $20 per person with a cap of $50 per family. 

Hiking and Biking

Cuyuna Lakes State Trail - Biking, Mountain Biking, In-Line Skating (or Rollerblading), Running, Walking, Skiing, Hiking and Fishing activities are underway! There is a demand for recreational trails in the former Cuyuna Range mining area. Users will be local and seasonal residents, weekend visitors, and day-trippers. Persons of all ages and varying recreational abilities will engage in walking and running, recreational biking, in-line skating, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, mountain biking, horseback riding, and hiking on the trails. Visitors to the CCSRA can also engage in camping, birding, off-trail hiking, boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, and nature viewing.

The Cuyuna Lakes State Recreational Area incorporates both paved and off road paths to take visitors through the regenerated mine land. Extensive mountain bike trails due to be completed this summer. Located 8 miles from Ruttger's in Crosby-Ironton, MN.

Mille Lacs Kathio State Park - Only 23 miles from Ruttger's, Mille Lacs Kathio State Park offers visitors a beautiful trail system packed with historic monuments and abundant wild life. Mille Lacs Kathio State Park has so much to offer and discover. Its 9000 years of human history and archaeological significance has made it a National Historic Landmark. You can learn about its rich history and all of Kathio's other treasures at the Visitor Center. Climb the 100 foot observation/fire tower and look across the majesty of Mille Lacs Lake. Take part in Mille Lacs Kathio State Park's extensive interpretive/nature programs or get out by yourself and hike on the park's varied trail system. Kathio has a wonderful swimming beach plus canoes or rowboats you can rent for a trip on the historic Rum River and Ogechie and Shakopee lakes. In the winter, visitors can cross-country ski on trails described as the best in Minnesota or take the family sledding on the popular sliding hill. The river, lakes, and park trails offer visitors excellent opportunities to watch waterfowl, bald eagles, osprey, beaver, loons, deer, coyotes, and many others.

Adult Golf Clinic: Learn helpful tips to improve your golf game. This clinic involves hands-on, personal instruction with one of Ruttger’s Golf Pros.  Must be 18 to participate.  Cost is $15 per person. 

Junior Golf Clinic: Young golfers, ages 6-17, will learn the basics of golf from our professional staff.  Cost is $10 per person. 

Adult Tennis Clinic: Improve your game with guidance from our tennis instructor.  Must be 16 and up to participate, individuals younger than 16 with higher skill level may participate in this clinic.  Cost is $12 per person. 

Junior Tennis Clinic: Young tennis players ages 6 -13, or beginners under the age of 18, will learn and practice skills with our tennis instructor.  Cost is $6 per person. 

Bay Lake Pontoon Cruises: Bring your whole family for a 20-25 minute cruise around the lake.  Watch for the Bald Eagle’s nest, loons, ospreys, and more.  The boat leaves every half-hour from the marina dock. 

1/2 Hour Pontoon Coffee Cruise: Meet fellow Ruttger guests while enjoying a fresh cup of specialty coffee and muffin or biscotti compliments of Auntie M’s and the beautiful Bay Lake area. 

Bonfire & S’Mores: The entire family will enjoy sitting by the cozy bonfire, Ruttger’s even provides the ingredients for s’mores.  On Mondays and Saturdays, there are musicians; on Thursdays, it’s just the fire and s’mores. 

Craft Class: Learning to make a new creation is fun.  Come to our “Make and Take” class and experience the pride of doing it yourself!  Extra fee for materials.  Ideally for ages 12 and up. 

Family Bingo: Ruttger’s guests are invited to try their luck at Bingo.  Cost is $1 per card for an entire evening of play.  Bingo is available 3 nights a week for even more chances to win! 

Family Movie Day: Families can have fun watching a movie with plenty of friends all day on Fridays and Sundays; possibly other times during inclement weather.  Movies will be rated G and PG. 

Family Sand Castle Contes: Bring your creativity; we’ll supply the pails, shovels, and sand.  Prizes awarded! 

Karaoke at the Bear Pine Bar: Join our professional karaoke entertainer at the Bear Pine for an evening of fun for talents of all ages! 

Loon & Eagle Presentation: Our Activities Department provides an informational presentation on the Common Loon and our majestic Eagle, and then enjoy a pontoon cruise in search of these magnificent birds.

Mini Golf at Traditions: Unlimited mini golf at Traditions Mini Golf on Fridays and Sundays.  Just $5 per person for Ruttger guests only; just show your guest card. 

Sunlife Yoga Classes: Our professional instructor will be here to lead you in an hour of relaxation exercises. Fee of $10 per person. 

Trail Walk: Take in the natural beauty of Minnesota on this 1.25 miles guided tour around Bass Lake.  There are maps of the trail with numbered corresponding posts that enable you to take your own tour. 

Talent Show: Join our Activities Staff and magnificent magician for a fun-filled night of magic, music, and more.  Audience participation is encouraged for all ages. 

Water Skiing/Knee Boarding: Knee Board and Water Skis provided so you can try an exciting new water sport.

Water Tubing: Enjoy a fun-filled ride with our marina and activities staff.  Two brand new tubes are available for your enjoyment. 

Wine & Cheese with the Ruttgers: Enjoy tasting our featured wines of the day from our broad selection while visiting with Chris & Joanne Ruttger. 

KIDS’ KAMP: From Monday through Friday, Children ages 4 – 12 will find so much to do that there will be no need to worry if they are safe and having a good time.  There are theme days and plenty of events that are inclusive for the entire family, but also allow those who wish to spend time doing their own thing, so relax and enjoy! Kids' Kampers:

Kids will enjoy outdoor activities such as swimming, boating, island excursions, fishing, outdoor games, and nature hikes. Indoor activities include games, stories, music fun, and crafts. A certified teacher supervises our excellent staff of counselors. Kids' Kamp counselors are CPR trained and a certified lifeguard is on duty during water activities.
