Winter on the Ranch:

Sleigh Rides
Picture this: you glide beneath a deep-black, star-dotted Montana sky, with only the sound of crunching snow and the jingling harnesses of the Percheron draft horses, which are skillfully guiding you along the frozen Gallatin River. The wool-wrapped wranglers talk about the 320's remarkable history, and maybe tell a few tall tales along the way. You and your family, along with the new friends you've made, arrive at the mountain man campsite, where you're handed a steaming mug of cowboy chili, and some hot cider spiced with rum. Montana's famous cold winters really aren't that cold, you think to yourself.

Sleigh rides begin at 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. We also offer a special 9:00 p.m. ride during peak season. The 320 Guest Ranch does not offer Sunday rides so our horses can have a day off.

Winter around Big Sky

Ski or Snowboard America’s biggest skiing: There is nothing like the morning after a fresh snowfall in Big Sky. The Lone Peak Pass interconnect lift ticket allows skiers and snowboarders access to 5,512 acres of skiable terrain, from the most relaxed, meandering slopes to the most challenging, vertical chutes.

Cross-country skiing: Lone Mountain Ranch, a working ranch turned paradise, is now named as North America’s #1 Nordic Ski center, with over 80 kilometers of groomed trails to discover. If the downhill slopes are not your thing, then these trails will offer you the experience you’re looking for. The Ranch offers a collection of snowshoe trails as well, for those looking for a slower pace in the woods.

Snowmobile and Snowcoach: Big Sky is surrounded by National Forest land and dozens of snowmobile trail opportunities right in our own backyard. In addition, West Yellowstone, just 36 miles from the Ranch, is the notable snowmobile capital of the world.

Dog Sledding: If you find yourself seeking experiences with local character, try taking the helm of a ten-dog sled on a trail that winds into the north side of Lone Peak into the Moonlight Basin area.

Summer on the Ranch:

Trail Rides:
Let Marce Hoffman, our Horse Operations Manager, and his professional wranglers show you why riding is a way of life out here. Our wranglers cover 2,000 trail miles each year and take care of trail maintenance all summer long, so you know you’re in the hands of experts.

Take a ride through high mountain meadows or to the top of 10,000-ft. peaks. You can see the Sunken Forest that natural forces created in 1959, not to mention a wide variety of wildlife including elk, deer, eagles, moose, coyotes, bears, and if you're lucky, maybe even a wolf.

If you’re coming to see Montana, you really need to see it from the back of a horse...

Fly Fishing

Two miles of the Blue Ribbon Gallatin River, made famous as the setting for the fishing scenes in the movie "A River Runs Through It," literally run through our property! We also have a private pond at the ranch, so you don't even have to leave the ranch to enjoy a day on the water

If you'd like to learn how to fish, or if you're an expert who wants to get the inside scoop on all the most productive local techniques, you can hire one of the ranch's guides for the day. Take fly-fishing lessons on our pond, enjoy a walk-and-wade trip on the Gallatin, float the Madison River, or take a horseback trip to a pristine mountain lake.
